I Did Not Know That....

A R Rahman's 1992 classic theme from the 'Bombay' soundtrack is featured on this one. It plays when Jack Valentine (an interpol agent, potrayed by Ethan Hawke) detains Yuri Orlov in Sierra Leone.

Lord of War's a good movie. Very tastefully made. Ostensibly it's loosely based on Viktor Bout and Arcadi Gaydamak.

Some of my favorite lines from the movies... from imdb(d0t) com

  • "Sir! Sir, may I interest you in the shoulder fired S-37 surface-to-air missle? It's the old Chinese model. Not so effective against modern military aircraft but deadly if used against a commerical airliner. "
  • "Back then, I didn't sell to Osama Bin Laden. Not because of moral reasons, but because he was always bouncing checks. "
  • "Thank God there are still legal ways to exploit developing countries. The only problem with an honest buck is they're so hard to make - the margins are too low, too many people are doin' it."
  • "There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11?"
  • "I sell to leftists, and rightists. I sell to pacifists, but they're not the most regular customers."
  • "Some of the most successful relationships are based on lies and deceit. Since that's where they usually end up anyway, it's a logical place to start."
  • "I had a flair for languages. But I soon discovered that what talks best is dollars, dinars, drachmas, rubles, rupees and pounds fucking sterling."

"You know who will inherit the earth? Arms dealers, because everyone else is too busy killing themselves."

Still. Nine Inch Nails. Wow.

I was finally able to get a hold of this album on iTunes; A definitive collection of NIN's hits, set to an acoustical pace. The outcome is an album that strums the deepest emotions and leaves you feeling weak in your knees as your hands quiver in helplessness. Tastefully composed, the songs pick up pace as the album drudges along and unfolds a softer side to an otherwise behemoth of an artist infamous for its aggressive themes and formidable presence in the music industry. Trent's piano laments, bemoans and promises to never let us fall apart. The highlight of this opus are tracks like 'The Fragile' and 'The Day the World Went Away'. But I feel that all tracks have their own charm and leave a lasting impression. You definitely need to have this album on loop.
Still is a piece of work that will be appreciated by the casual listener or a devoted NIN fan. When the album was released a few years ago, a small share of copies were available and within a few days it was all gone. When NIN opened their merchandising section in 2004, Still also available through this site. I finally downloaded a digital copy this morning. And boy, am I glad! Thank you Trent for such amazing music and reflecting each and every emotion of so many millions of fans, just like we imagined...

How to lighten up your Sunday without a Chapstick.

"Last week, Japanese scientists explaced-- placed explosive detonators at the bottom of Lake Loch Ness to blow Nessie out of the water. Sir Curt Godfrey of the Nessie Alliance summoned the help of Scotland's local wizards to cast a protective spell over the lake and it's local residents and all those who seek for the peaceful existence of our underwater ally."
