BURDWAN: Instead of a man dying of snakebite, it was the turn of poisonous cobra to die after an inebriated man bit and cut it into two pieces.

Subhas Banerjee, a canteen worker of Jamuria police station in Burdwan district, was returning to his Ekra village home in a drunken state when he found villagers talking about a cobra being found in the locality, police said.

Banerjee hit the cobra with a stick and when it was still alive, he bit the serpent and cut it into two pieces, telling others that a snake should also know how it felt being bitten.

Shortly after, however, he fell unconcious and had to be taken to a hospital. He is now well.

The incident occurred on Friday evening.
